Research Intern, Physical AI and GPU (PhD)
Marvell TechnologyJob Title
Research Intern - Physical AI and GPU (PhD)
Role Summary
Research intern on the Physical AI and GPU team, developing software and systems for on-device and constrained compute in autonomous systems. Work focuses on prototyping platforms, optimizing GPU code, and integrating ML models with compute, networking, and security stacks.
The role supports publishable research and translation of results into silicon and products; it involves collaboration with senior architects and may require eligibility to access export-controlled technology.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for doctoral researchers; specific years of professional experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include prototyping, performance optimization, and research-to-product translation.
- Prototype and evaluate next-generation Physical AI platforms and agentic capabilities.
- Write and optimize CUDA kernels for limited-memory, low-end GPUs.
- Design and build compute, networking, and security platforms for autonomous systems.
- Develop systems that plan, decide, and act autonomously.
- Design, train, and fine-tune ML models for perception, reasoning, and action on real-world inputs (video, audio, sensors).
- Collaborate with mentors to prepare research for internal review and external publication.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills are listed first; preferred experience follows.
- Must-have: Strong GPU and CUDA programming skills (kernel optimization, memory management, performance tuning under tight resource constraints).
- Strong fundamentals in machine learning, computer architecture, and systems.
- Experience with robotic platforms or real-world AI applications (perception, sensors, or real-time control).
- Proficient programming in C/C++ and Python.
- Hands-on ML modeling, training, and fine-tuning using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Preferred: Experience with model optimization and quantization for constrained hardware, robotics frameworks (e.g., ROS), on-device inference, agentic systems, or next-generation AI silicon.
Education Requirements
Enrolled in a PhD, MS by Research, or MTech by Research program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
