Principal Engineer - CAD (Physical Verification)
Role Summary
Join the CAD Engineering team to define and deliver CAD/EDA architectures, methodologies, and engineering-software solutions that support semiconductor design and physical verification. The role partners with design, verification, IT, infrastructure, product, test, manufacturing, vendors, and users to produce scalable, reliable, and automatable design environments.
Experience Level
Senior level - typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in CAD/EDA, semiconductor design flows, engineering software, verification, or compute infrastructure.
Responsibilities
The role leads technical direction, validation, and delivery of CAD solutions within an approved domain.
- Define and evolve CAD/EDA architectures, methodologies, flows, tools, scripts, and automation.
- Translate complex design, verification, infrastructure, product, and business needs into scalable technical direction.
- Guide approaches across analog, digital, RF, PCB, ASIC, FPGA, and SoC design and verification.
- Incorporate performance, capacity, reliability, security, quality, and lifecycle considerations into designs.
- Lead technical investigations, validation strategies, release-readiness reviews, and corrective actions.
- Drive reusable methodology, observability, standardization, and engineering-productivity improvements.
- Coordinate cross-functional roadmaps and deliverables with internal teams and external vendors.
- Provide broad technical guidance and mentoring without formal people-management responsibility.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor CAD/EDA, design automation, engineering software, or equivalent practical experience.
- Advanced analytical and strategic thinking, architecture and methodology development, and structured problem solving.
- Experience with scripting or software development, validation, regression testing, and debugging.
- Familiarity with compute or grid infrastructure and technical support for engineering tools.
- Ability to communicate decisions, produce documentation, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Track record of improving engineering productivity through automation and standardization.
- Preferred: experience specifically in physical verification, design-flow development, and automation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required (or equivalent practical experience). Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
