Job Title

Research Engineer - Principal

Role Summary

Lead R&D for an OPC modeling and simulation platform, owning technical direction and delivery of scalable modeling software, advanced user interfaces, distributed computing, and database-backed workflows.

Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team and collaborate with product, research, and customer-facing groups to translate complex modeling challenges into production-quality software.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, system architecture, and delivery of modeling and simulation software.

  • Lead and mentor an R&D engineering team; set technical direction and priorities.
  • Design and deliver scalable OPC modeling and simulation platforms and production-grade software.
  • Develop advanced user interfaces and visualization (desktop and web) for large-scale data and 3D geometry rendering.
  • Architect and implement high-performance distributed computing that scales across many compute nodes.
  • Design and integrate database-backed workflows and ensure reliable operation in production environments.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, research, and customer teams to translate requirements into software solutions.
  • Drive performance, quality, and reproducibility of model-calibration and simulation workflows.

Requirements

Must-have technical and leadership skills; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proven ability to lead R&D teams and communicate effectively across global, cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in modeling, simulation, and model-calibration workflows.
  • Hands-on GUI development experience (PyQt and web-based GUI technologies) for large-scale visualization and interactive workflows.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed computing architectures and experience building scalable production systems.
  • Practical production experience with database technologies and integrating database-backed systems.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C/C++ for production development.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ML infrastructure, model-training workflows, or scalable machine-learning platforms.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing, data pipelines, or high-performance data-management workflows.
  • Familiarity with TCL or other scripting/interface languages.

Education Requirements

Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline is required.
