Role Summary
The Regional Development Applications Engineering Intern supports the Applications Engineering team in Shanghai on e-beam inspection and review systems for semiconductor manufacturing. The role focuses on experimental evaluation of tool features, data collection and analysis, process support, and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. No prior professional experience required.
Responsibilities
Primary duties while on the internship:
- Design and execute experiments to evaluate new tool features and system performance.
- Collect, analyze, and visualize experimental and demo data under guidance from senior engineers.
- Prepare documentation such as application notes, characterization reports, and best-known methods (BKMs).
- Support process optimization studies and benchmarking using customer or demo datasets.
- Assist with tool setup, calibration checks, and recipe execution in lab or demo environments.
- Participate in debugging and problem investigation under supervision.
- Collaborate with R&D, product engineering, and field applications; contribute to training material and present project findings.
Requirements
Required skills and attributes for successful performance:
- Must-have: Hands-on lab experience or coursework involving experiments, data collection, and basic data analysis/visualization.
- Must-have: Demonstrated ability to learn semiconductor fabrication processes and defect review workflows quickly.
- Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical results.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with instrumentation, tool calibration, or recipe execution in lab environments.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with scripting or data-analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and experience preparing demo materials.
Education Requirements
Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
