R&D Staff Hardware Engineer
BroadcomJob Title
R&D Staff Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Design, develop, and deliver ultra high-performance electronic products with end-to-end ownership of hardware engineering tasks. You will take products from concept through validation, customer trials, field support, and sustaining in a cross-functional engineering environment.
Work closely with teams across ASIC, signal integrity, mechanical, thermal, packaging, diagnostics, and manufacturing, and participate in joint development with external partners when required.
Experience Level
Senior-level engineer. Candidates typically have substantial industry experience and demonstrated technical leadership in hardware design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on hardware design and cross-functional collaboration.
- Full ownership of electronic hardware design: schematic capture, PCB/layout interaction, BOM creation, and vendor interactions.
- Design and validate high-performance boards supporting advanced SoCs and complex packaging.
- Develop and execute validation plans using oscilloscopes, analyzers, and lab instrumentation.
- Address power and thermal challenges for high-power PCBs and system-level designs.
- Lead signal-integrity efforts for high-speed SerDes interfaces and dense interconnects.
- Support manufacturing, compliance, safety, and field issues; participate in customer trials and product sustaining.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary and partner teams during joint development programs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted.
- Experienced with large, high-powered SoC platforms and advanced silicon/packaging technologies (2D/2.5D, 3D memories).
- Practical use of precision scopes, protocol analyzers, and validation tools for high-speed systems.
- Hands-on experience solving power and thermal issues on PCBs with high power densities.
- Design and debug experience with high-speed/high-density signaling, including SerDes at 112G+.
- Proven participation in cross-functional development teams and working with manufacturing, compliance, and safety organizations.
- Strong ownership mindset: cradle-to-grave product development, including field support and sustaining activities.
- Nice-to-have: prior involvement in vendor negotiation and supply-chain coordination for board-level components.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (explicitly stated) and 8+ years of related experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered where noted by the employer.
