R&D Quality & Reliability Engineer
Role Summary
Lead quality and reliability efforts for Broadcom's silicon photonics product portfolio, focusing on device-level qualifications, failure analysis, and support for product transfers into high-volume manufacturing.
Work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and customer teams to develop and execute reliability qualification plans, implement corrective actions, and report quality status.

Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end quality and reliability for silicon photonics devices and related technologies.
- Define and execute reliability qualification plans for devices, transceivers, co-packaged optics, and related products.
- Drive failure analysis investigations to determine root cause and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure designs meet reliability and testability goals for NPI and ramp to volume.
- Partner with manufacturing to enable smooth product transfers and maintain quality during volume ramp.
- Maintain Product/Process Qualification (PPQ) and Change Management practices to protect customers and product integrity.
- Prepare and present regular quality updates and support customer visits and audits.
Requirements
Key technical skills and professional capabilities required for this role.
- Proven experience in quality and reliability for silicon photonics or related fields (photodiodes, modulators, lasers, fiber optics, IC packaging, wafer fabrication).
- Device reliability and test expertise: design for reliability, design for test, semiconductor characterization, and qualification test/stress strategy development.
- Experience developing infrastructure for reliability assessment of die, EICs, or optical engines.
- Advanced statistical and data-analysis skills (JMP, Python, R, MATLAB) and experience building databases for manufacturing support.
- Strong failure analysis technique knowledge and experience driving cross-functional root-cause work to closure.
- Customer-facing communication skills and experience presenting quality and reliability results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-starter able to work independently in a fast-paced environment; willingness to travel up to 10%.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field. Employer specifies experience offsets: Bachelor's +8 years, Master's +6 years, PhD +3 years (equivalent practical experience accepted as indicated by the posting).
