Job Title
R&D IC Designer
Role Summary
Design and develop integrated circuits (ASICs). Deliver architecture, logic design, verification, simulation, and documentation to support ASIC development from high-level design through synthesis, place-and-route, and timing/power optimization.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical experience: 3β7 years.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for the role include:
- Define IC architecture and module interfaces; perform system-level and logic design.
- Develop and verify ASIC designs using simulation and formal/functional verification methods.
- Drive synthesis, place-and-route flows and perform timing and power analysis and optimization.
- Document designs, define interfaces/formats for simulation, and produce engineering deliverables.
- Plan and conduct experiments, analyze results, and refine design/process decisions.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities and coordinate work with third parties as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers, coordinate cross-team activities, and provide regular status updates to management.
Requirements
Core skills and experience required (must-haves listed first):
-
Must-have: Proven ASIC/IC design experience covering architecture, logic design, system simulation, and verification.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with digital design flows: synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure and power analysis.
-
Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and on cross-functional teams.
- Experience documenting designs and defining module interfaces for simulation and verification.
- Experience coordinating with vendors and evaluating external capabilities.
- Good communication skills and experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers.
-
Nice-to-have: Prior work on complex multidimensional layouts or deep experience in a specific domain (e.g., high-speed I/O, mixed-signal) where applicable.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 5+ years of related experience, or Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 3+ years of related experience, or PhD in Engineering or Computer Science with no prior experience required. (Degrees and fields listed as stated by the employer.)
