Job Title

R&D Hardware Design Engineer (High Speed Analog)

Role Summary

Design and validate high-speed analog circuits for wireline transceivers, including schematic design, layout collaboration, and laboratory characterization. Work within an R&D hardware team to define design approaches, select components, and solve signal integrity and timing problems for product development.

Experience Level

Senior role. Posting specifies typically a Bachelor's degree plus 8+ years' related experience or a Master's degree plus 6+ years' related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, simulation, testing and integration of high-speed analog hardware:

  • Architect, design and optimize analog front-end circuits for high-speed transceivers.
  • Perform simulations and define design parameters; iterate designs based on test results.
  • Plan and execute lab characterization and experimental tests; analyze measurement data.
  • Select components and evaluate vendor capabilities for product requirements and reliability.
  • Collaborate with layout/PCB teams using CAD tools and review physical implementation.
  • Address signal integrity, clocking, jitter, and equalization issues for backplane and optical links.
  • Work across teams and stakeholders to deliver designs within defined schedules and procedures.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; nice-to-have items are listed separately.

  • Proven experience designing high-speed analog circuits for wireline transceivers (hands-on schematic, simulation, and lab verification).
  • Practical experience with circuit simulation tools and CAD/layout toolchains; ability to collaborate on physical implementation.
  • Strong measurement and lab skills for high-speed analog signals, including jitter and noise characterization.
  • Ability to analyze system-level tradeoffs and apply equalization/clock-data recovery techniques.
  • Good written and verbal communication to document results and work cross-functionally.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with high-speed (>10 Gbps) ADC/DAC design.
  • Experience with very-high-frequency PLLs (>28 GHz) and low-jitter design.
  • Design experience with low-noise, high-linearity TIAs and laser drivers.
  • Experience with equalization for backplanes and optical links and low-latency CDR circuits.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 8+ years of related experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 6+ years of related experience.
