R&D Engineering Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Design and build internal software tools and automation that improve engineering productivity for VLSI, EDA, and physical design teams. The role focuses on prototyping and delivering AI-assisted solutions, APIs, services, and workflow orchestration that reduce repetitive manual verification and engineering tasks.

You will be part of a collaborative R&D team that partners with CAD, physical design, and verification engineers to identify pain points, deliver scalable software solutions, and shape internal automation platforms.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 5+ years of software development experience in automation, CAD, EDA, or related engineering domains.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities are to prototype, build, and operate software and automation that accelerate engineering workflows and enable AI-assisted capabilities.

• Design and implement tools that automate repetitive engineering tasks across VLSI, EDA, and physical design workflows.
• Develop AI-assisted solutions and agent-based systems integrated into existing development environments.
• Evaluate LLMs, AI technologies, and automation frameworks; prototype and deploy solutions that solve real engineering problems.
• Partner with CAD, physical design, and verification engineers to translate workflow pain points into scalable software products.
• Build and maintain APIs, services, and workflow orchestration systems to connect tools and data sources.
• Create proof-of-concepts and production-quality applications, monitor usage, and iterate based on feedback.

Requirements

Must-have:

• 5+ years of software development experience in automation, CAD, EDA, or related engineering domains.
• Strong programming skills and experience building scalable, maintainable software applications.
• Solid grounding in software architecture, algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented design.
• Hands-on experience with AI technologies such as large language models, agent-based systems, or intelligent automation frameworks.
• Experience designing and integrating APIs, services, and workflow automation solutions.
• Familiarity with Linux development environments, Git, and modern software development practices.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with semiconductor design, VLSI, physical design, or EDA workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field — or equivalent practical experience.
