Job Title
R&D Engineering Architect
Role Summary
Lead development of scalable CAD flows for Synopsys Interface IP, collaborating with R&D, tool developers, and customers to improve performance, power, and area (PPA) and to support tapeouts at advanced process nodes.
Provide technical leadership, customer support, and cross-functional coordination to deliver validated flows and production-ready IP implementations.
Experience Level
Senior β 15+ years of hands-on experience in synthesis, place & route, and sign-off for ASIC physical design and CAD flows.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing CAD reference flows, demonstrating PPA improvements, and supporting customers and tapeouts.
- Collaborate with R&D to design and validate CAD flows for Synopsys Interface IP.
- Demonstrate and document differentiated PPA results on standard IP protocol designs.
- Provide technical support to IP developers, key customers, and test-chip tapeouts at leading-edge nodes.
- Deliver scalable, reusable automation and flow components for multiple IPs.
- Automate and optimize flows using scripting (Perl, Tcl) and integration with EDA tools.
- Drive cross-functional projects, coordinate with Field AE and tool R&D teams, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
Must-haves for success in this role.
- 15+ years of experience in ASIC physical design or CAD flow development for complex SoCs.
- Deep knowledge of the full physical design flow: floorplanning, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, IR-drop/EM analysis, LVS/DRC, and sign-off methodologies.
- Proficiency with industry CAD tools such as Design Compiler (DC), PrimeTime (PT), ICC2/Fusion Compiler (FC), ICV, and RedHawk.
- Experience with advanced process nodes (5nm, 3nm, 2nm) and corresponding flow optimizations.
- Strong scripting skills in Perl and Tcl for automation and optimization.
- Proven track record developing production CAD flows and managing cross-functional, high-pressure projects.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Education Requirements
Background in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Science (CS) or a related technical field is expected; the posting does not specify a required degree level.
