Job Title

R&D Engineer β€” Integrated Photonics

Role Summary

Design and execute experiments to characterize and validate integrated photonic circuits used in a silicon-photonics quantum computing platform. Work with circuit designers and system engineers to develop automated test workflows and interpret experimental data to improve device performance and scalability.

Experience Level

Mid-level.

Responsibilities

Conduct and document experimental characterization of integrated photonic devices and contribute to scalable test methodology.

  • Design and run experiments across multiple optical wavelengths to characterize integrated photonic circuits.
  • Test and analyze devices containing directional couplers, interferometers, EO modulators, phase shifters, and related components.
  • Develop automated experimental control and data-acquisition systems (Python preferred).
  • Interpret measurement results and collaborate with designers to troubleshoot and improve devices.
  • Produce detailed reports and documentation for procedures, results, and test methodologies.
  • Contribute to development of scalable testing approaches for large-scale photonic systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and hands-on laboratory experience.

  • Strong experimental background in integrated optics and photonic circuit characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with directional couplers, interferometers (e.g. MZI/AMZI), and phase shifters.
  • Experience with EO modulators and complex optical measurement setups.
  • Proficiency in Python for experiment automation and data analysis.
  • Ability to develop and maintain automated control and data-acquisition systems.
  • Clear technical writing and documentation skills for experimental procedures and results.

Education Requirements

PhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
