Job Title
R&D Engineer, IC Design
Role Summary
Engineer responsible for front-end design and verification of ASIC cores, covering architecture definition, RTL/logic design, synthesis, and verification using simulation and formal methods.
Work with cross-functional teams to achieve timing closure and support implementation-quality deliverables for high-frequency designs.
Experience Level
Senior β position expects experienced engineers. Posting specifies a Bachelor's degree plus 8+ years or a Master's degree plus 6+ years of related experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include front-end design, synthesis, verification, and timing analysis.
- Define architecture and design logic blocks from system requirements.
- Develop RTL and perform Verilog simulation and debugging.
- Perform synthesis and create/develop constraints for design blocks.
- Conduct design verification using simulation and formal verification methods.
- Analyze physical implementation timing and drive timing closure.
- Collaborate across design, verification, and implementation teams to resolve issues.
Requirements
Must-have skills and tool experience for successful performance in the role.
Must-have:
- Proven front-end ASIC design and implementation experience, including RTL and Verilog simulation.
- Hands-on synthesis experience (Synopsys Design Compiler/DC topo or Cadence RTL Compiler) and constraints development.
- Timing analysis experience with Synopsys PrimeTime; understanding of liberty (LIB) timing models.
- Experience with formal verification tools (e.g., Synopsys Formality, Cadence Conformal).
- Scripting proficiency in TCL and/or Perl for tooling and flows.
- Familiarity with lint tools (Spyglass) and power analysis at RTL/gate level.
- Knowledge of DFT and scan methodology.
- Version control experience (SVN or Git) and ability to work independently and in teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience targeting very high-frequency designs.
- Additional tool exposure across the implementation or signoff flows.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (the posting lists BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering); hiring guidance states a Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of related experience or a Master's degree with 6+ years of related experience. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
