R&D Engineer, IC Design
Role Summary
Design and deliver complex integrated circuits (ASIC/IC) across architecture, logic, verification, and implementation phases. Lead multi-disciplinary teams through development, synthesis, place-and-route, timing and power closure, and documentation.
Provide technical leadership for major projects, coordinate with cross-functional groups and vendors, and mentor junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical experience guidance in the posting: Bachelor's + 8+ years, Master's + 6+ years, or PhD + 3+ years of relevant IC design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define architecture and module interfaces for new ASIC/IC designs.
- Perform logic design, system simulation, and verification planning.
- Drive synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and power optimization.
- Evaluate process flow, tools and vendor capabilities; conduct experiments and analyze results.
- Lead projects end-to-end, set priorities, and deliver on schedule.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers; act as escalation point for complex technical issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven track record in ASIC/IC design and delivery across multiple design phases.
- Experience with logic/RTL design and system-level simulation methodologies.
- Hands-on knowledge of synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis and power optimization.
- Strong project management and leadership skills; experience leading major design projects.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and select appropriate methods and tools.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience evaluating vendor tools and production flows for complex IC designs.
- Prior experience mentoring teams in a matrixed engineering organization.
Education Requirements
Degrees and equivalent experience stated in the posting: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years' related experience; Master's degree with 6+ years' related experience; or PhD with 3+ years' related experience. Post-graduate coursework may be desirable. (If equivalent practical experience is used, it should match the experience guidance above.)
