R&D Engineer, IC Design 4

Role Summary

Engineer responsible for front-end ASIC core design and verification for Broadcom. Work includes architecture definition, RTL design, synthesis, and verification using simulation and formal methods.

Collaborate with physical implementation and system teams to achieve timing closure and meet high-frequency design targets.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include designing and verifying digital ASIC blocks from architecture through synthesis and verification.

• Define architecture and implement logic blocks from system requirements.
• Develop synthesis flows and constraints for RTL to gate-level implementation.
• Perform functional verification using simulation and formal verification tools.
• Analyze timing reports from physical implementation and drive timing closure.
• Simulate, debug, and validate designs using Verilog-based simulation environments.
• Coordinate with implementation, DFT, and system teams to resolve integration issues.

Requirements

Technical skills and tool experience required for the role.

• Proficient scripting in TCL and/or Perl.
• Experience with synthesis tools (Synopsys Design Compiler/DC or Cadence RTL Compiler).
• Timing analysis expertise with Synopsys PrimeTime for high-frequency designs.
• Familiarity with liberty (LIB) timing models and timing characterization.
• Experience with formal verification tools (e.g., Synopsys Formality, Cadence Conformal).
• Static lint and RTL quality tools (e.g., Spyglass) and power analysis of RTL/gate-level netlists.
• Knowledge of DFT and scan insertion methodologies.
• Version control experience (SVN, Git) and engineering change workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Typical experience expectations: Bachelor's +8+ years related experience, or Master's +6+ years related experience.
