R&D Engineer, IC Design 4

Role Summary

Engineer responsible for front-end ASIC core design and verification. Work covers architecture definition, RTL/logic design, synthesis, and verification using simulation and formal methods. Collaborate across physical design, verification, and system teams to achieve functional and timing closure.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Experience guidance: approximately 6–8+ years of relevant ASIC design and verification experience depending on degree (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Define architecture and implement logic blocks from system requirements.
• Perform RTL design, synthesis and develop timing/constraint scripts.
• Verify designs using simulation and formal verification methodologies.
• Analyze timing after implementation and drive timing closure.
• Simulate, debug, and iterate on designs using Verilog-based flows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate blocks and resolve issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Proven front-end ASIC design and verification experience (RTL, logic design, implementation flows).
• Practical experience with synthesis and constraint development.
• Experience in functional verification using simulation and formal techniques.
• Timing analysis and closure experience; ability to interpret post-layout timing reports.
• Proficiency in Verilog and scripting (TCL/Perl).
• Version control experience (SVN or Git).

Preferred / tool-specific experience:

• Familiarity with Synopsys Design Compiler / DC or Cadence RTL Compiler for synthesis.
• Timing analysis with Synopsys PrimeTime and knowledge of liberty (LIB) models.
• Formal verification tools such as Synopsys Formality or Cadence Conformal.
• Static lint tools (Spyglass) and RTL/gate-level power analysis experience.
• Design-for-test (DFT) and scan methodology knowledge.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Typical experience guidance provided by the employer: Bachelor's degree with ~8+ years of related experience, or Master's degree with ~6+ years of related experience.
