Job Title
R&D Engineer, IC Design 4
Role Summary
Engineer role on Broadcom's ASIC front-end design team in Austin, TX. Responsible for architecture, RTL/logic design, synthesis, and front-end verification of high‑performance ASIC cores.
Works with physical implementation, verification, and cross-functional teams to achieve timing closure and functional correctness.
Experience Level
Senior level — experience expectation: Bachelor's +8 years or Master's +6 years of related ASIC/front-end design experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include front-end design, verification, and timing analysis:
- Define architecture and design logic blocks from system requirements.
- Develop RTL, perform synthesis, and create synthesis constraints.
- Verify designs using simulation and formal verification flows.
- Analyze physical implementation timing and drive timing closure.
- Simulate, debug, and iterate on RTL and gate-level designs.
- Collaborate with implementation, verification, and system teams to integrate cores.
Requirements
Key technical skills and tools required. (Education and degree guidance are summarized separately below.)
- Proven front-end ASIC design and implementation experience (architecture, RTL, synthesis).
- Proficiency in Verilog simulation and RTL debug.
- Scripting experience with TCL and/or Perl.
- Experience with synthesis tools (Synopsys Design Compiler / DC topo or Cadence RTL Compiler).
- Timing analysis experience with Synopsys PrimeTime for high-frequency designs; familiarity with liberty (LIB) timing models.
- Experience with formal verification tools (Synopsys Formality, Cadence Conformal) and lint tools (Spyglass).
- Knowledge of power analysis flows for RTL and gate-level netlists.
- Understanding of DFT and scan methodology.
- Version control experience (SVN or Git).
- Ability to work independently and to collaborate across engineering teams.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (or equivalent). Career experience guideline provided: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of related experience, or Master's degree with 6+ years of related experience; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
