R&D Engineer Hardware 5
BroadcomJob Title
R&D Engineer Hardware 5
Role Summary
Design high-speed analog circuits for wireline transceivers within an R&D engineering group. Work focuses on component selection, experimental validation, and non-ASIC layout/design for advanced transceiver products.
Role requires independent technical judgment on moderate-scope problems and collaboration with internal and external teams to deliver reliable hardware designs.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting specifies substantial experience (see Education Requirements for years-of-experience tied to degree).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include defining design approaches, validating designs, and integrating components into product-level hardware.
- Determine design approaches, parameters, and specifications for high-speed analog circuits.
- Analyze equipment and test data; conduct experiments and evaluate results to validate designs.
- Select components and equipment based on performance and reliability requirements.
- Perform layout/design work for non-ASIC products and collaborate with layout teams as needed.
- Assess vendor capabilities to support product development when applicable.
- Troubleshoot and optimize designs for performance, jitter, linearity, noise, and latency.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships across engineering and external partners.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and desirable specialized experience.
- Proven experience in high-speed analog circuit design for wireline transceivers.
- Hands-on experience with test methods and experimental validation of analog/RF hardware.
- Proficiency selecting components and defining reliability-driven specifications.
- Ability to perform layout-aware design for non-ASIC hardware products.
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Highly desirable (one or more):
- High-speed (>10 Gbps) ADC and DAC design.
- High-frequency (>28 GHz) and low-jitter (<100 fs-rms) PLL design.
- High-linearity (1β3% THD) low-noise TIA and laser driver design.
- Equalization techniques for backplanes and optical links.
- High-speed, low-latency clock & data recovery circuits.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus 12+ years of related experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering plus 10+ years of related experience. Specific engineering discipline not specified.
