Job Title
R&D Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the TLR (top-level-route) team responsible for physical implementation, verification, and tapeout integrity of ASIC designs. The role focuses on place-and-route, congestion and timing analysis, physical verification, and post-tapeout checks to ensure successful chip finishing.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 4β8 years of relevant VLSI physical implementation or related experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include hands-on implementation and verification tasks across the back-end flow.
- Perform place-and-route, clock tree synthesis (CTS), routability and congestion analysis.
- Execute physical verification tasks (DRC, LVS, antenna, LUP) and chip finishing for tapeout.
- Integrate analog blocks and ensure RC/timing requirements for manual or special signals.
- Maintain and apply calibre rule decks for DRC/LVS, DFM/DFY, ERC and ESD/latchup checks.
- Run integrity checks and manage post-tapeout eJob view releases.
- Implement timing ECOs, IR-drop fixes, SPEF/GPD extraction, and signal EM/noise fixes.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to meet product development milestones and adapt to new responsibilities.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience for the role. Preferred items are noted.
- 4β8 years of experience in VLSI physical design, implementation, or related CAD/EDA roles.
- Strong understanding of place-and-route flows, CTS, STA, timing analysis and timing closure.
- Practical experience with physical verification flows including DRC, LVS, antenna, and tapeout procedures.
- Proficient scripting skills (Perl, TCL) for automation and flow development.
- Experience implementing timing ECOs, IR-drop analysis/fixes, SPEF/GPD extraction, and EM/noise mitigation.
- Working knowledge of VLSI fabrication/process technology and chip finishing requirements.
- Good written and verbal communication; able to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
-
Preferred: hands-on experience with Cadence Innovus and Mentor/Calibre CAD tools.
Education Requirements
