Job Title

R&D Dry Etch Process Development Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and optimize plasma dry etch processes for advanced memory technologies within Micron's R&D organization. The role spans early research, pilot line execution, and global process transfer and requires cross-functional collaboration with integration, yield, manufacturing, and vendors.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires 5+ years of semiconductor experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for designing, executing, and transferring dry etch process solutions to support future product nodes.

  • Develop and optimize plasma dry etch processes to meet structural and electrical specifications.
  • Drive dry etch technology roadmaps and deliver solutions for future product nodes.
  • Perform root-cause defect analysis and failure-mode investigations.
  • Partner with integration, yield, manufacturing, and vendors to ensure process robustness.
  • Support process transfer from R&D pilot line to global production fabs.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required and preferred.

Must-have:

  • 5+ years of semiconductor industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of dry etch processing and plasma source fundamentals.
  • Experience with experimental design, troubleshooting, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of SPC and process control methodologies.
  • Solid foundation in transport phenomena, electromagnetics, or surface physics.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience using Python, R, or JMP for data analysis.
  • Experience supporting R&D pilot line manufacturing.
  • Understanding of solid-state devices.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional technology development efforts.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required; the role is commonly paired with 5+ years of semiconductor experience. A Master’s degree or PhD in the same or closely related fields is preferred.
