Quartus Compiler Software - Intern
Role Summary
This internship sits in the Quartus compiler group and focuses on design, implementation, and testing of compiler tools used for FPGA synthesis, placement & routing, and timing analysis.
The intern will work on C/C++ code, develop tests (C++ and HDL), propose feature ideas, and help move useful ideas toward productization within the compiler team.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current undergraduate students; no specific prior professional experience required.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design software architecture and implement features in C/C++ for compiler components.
- Propose improvements, write functional descriptions, and implement changes to synthesis, place-and-route, and timing-analysis engines.
- Develop and maintain unit tests and regression tests in C/C++.
- Create HDL test cases (VHDL/Verilog) to validate compiler behavior.
- Participate in debugging, verification, and integration of changes into the compiler codebase.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and conditions:
- Proficient in C/C++ programming and software development practices.
- Familiarity with VHDL or Verilog for writing HDL testcases.
- Experience writing unit tests and regression tests; attention to verification and debugging.
- Comfort working on low-level tools (compilers/synthesis/place-and-route) and reading complex codebases.
- Must be able to meet any required Canada export authorizations for the role.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to FPGA/ASIC design flows, synthesis, or place-and-route concepts.
- Familiarity with Linux development, version control (Git), and scripting.
Education Requirements
Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Computer Science, or a closely related field.
