Role Summary

Senior technical leader within GF Labs responsible for advancing topological quantum computing concepts into scalable semiconductor platforms. The role covers materials, device physics, integration, cryogenic systems, experiments, and early hardware development.

Works with internal engineering teams and external partners to define roadmaps, guide R&D, and translate research into manufacturable solutions.

Experience Level

Senior — 12+ years of experience in quantum devices, semiconductor technologies, or advanced research.

Responsibilities

Primary technical responsibilities and leadership tasks for maturing topological qubit technologies.

  • Define and drive long-term technology roadmaps for topological qubits, covering materials, device architectures, and integration.
  • Lead development of topological quantum devices through experiments, simulations, and prototype evaluation.
  • Guide R&D of advanced materials including III‑V heterostructures, epitaxy, superconductors, and topological material systems.
  • Integrate device concepts with process, AME, PDK, and test teams to deliver scalable semiconductor architectures.
  • Design system architectures that link qubits with cryogenic control and read-out electronics.
  • Drive modeling and validation to improve coherence, performance, manufacturability, and scalability.
  • Translate device innovations into semiconductor-compatible integration approaches (BEOL, superconducting wiring, heterogeneous integration).
  • Establish technical benchmarks, requirements, and success metrics aligned with internal and partner programs.
  • Serve as primary technical interface with customers and research partners; lead collaborations and funded programs.
  • Mentor engineers, set technical standards, communicate strategy and risks to leadership, and perform work in accordance with EHS requirements.

Requirements

Core qualifications and skills required for the role. Education requirements are listed separately below.

  • 12+ years of experience in quantum devices, semiconductor technologies, or advanced research and development.
  • Deep expertise in topological, superconducting, and quantum system architectures.
  • Experience with cryogenic device physics and low-temperature measurement environments.
  • Hands-on experience with experiments, modeling/simulations, prototype evaluation, and data analysis.
  • Proven ability to translate research concepts into semiconductor integration and scalable process flows.
  • Demonstrated impact on technical strategy, roadmap definition, and cross-disciplinary program leadership.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and customer-facing skills.
  • Preferred: background in Majorana or other topological qubit architectures; experience leading external collaborations and mentoring technical teams.

Education Requirements

Required: MS or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Applied Physics. Preferred: PhD with publications or patents related to topological quantum devices.
