Quantum Superconducting Qubit Integration
Role Summary
Member of Technical Staff within the GF Labs / Technology Development organization responsible for integrating superconducting quantum hardware into manufacturable process flows. Focus areas include superconducting materials, Josephson Junction devices, low-loss wiring, resonators, cryogenic readout structures, packaging, and process/module integration.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires 5+ years of relevant semiconductor, device, materials, or superconducting/hardware integration experience.
Responsibilities
Execute hands-on process and module integration work to improve device performance, yield, variability, and scalability.
- Integrate superconducting wiring, Josephson Junctions, resonators, BEOL modules, cryogenic interfaces, and packaging into device platforms.
- Develop and execute process integration flows for materials, junction formation, patterning, and dielectric interfaces.
- Improve low-loss superconducting interconnects and microwave structures for cryogenic operation (ground planes, vias, crossovers, air bridges, feedlines, filters, resonators).
- Analyze drivers of process and device performance: defectivity, variability, contamination, interface quality, dielectric loss, flux trapping, and thermalization.
- Design and execute DOEs; analyze inline, physical, electrical, microwave, and cryogenic data to guide improvements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with device, process, metrology, packaging, reliability, design enablement, and cryogenic-test teams to meet integration milestones.
- Translate quantum device requirements into manufacturable flows, design rules, materials specifications, characterization plans, and yield-learning actions.
- Document process flows, material tradeoffs, characterization results, and technical learnings for scalable development and knowledge transfer.

Must-have
- 5+ years in semiconductor process, device, materials, superconducting device, or integration engineering.
- Significant experience with superconducting wiring, superconducting materials, and cryogenic device or quantum-hardware integration.
- Experience with Josephson Junction fabrication, integration, testing, or characterization.
- Cryogenic characterization experience for superconducting devices, resonators, interconnects, or related structures.
- Experience designing, integrating, or characterizing superconducting circuits, resonators, or microwave structures for qubit control/readout.
- Strong data analysis, problem-solving, debugging, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10%.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with superconducting films (Al, Nb, NbN, TiN, Ta) and Josephson Junction process modules (trilayers, shadow evaporation, oxidation control, lift-off, damascene, subtractive patterning).
- Microwave engineering knowledge for qubits: resonator Q, dielectric loss, impedance matching, crosstalk, filtering, packaging parasitics.
- Experience with dilution refrigerator measurements, cryogenic probing, S-parameters, resonator extraction, or critical-current testing.
- Experience with BEOL integration, superconducting interconnects, low-loss dielectrics, air bridges, TSVs, flip-chip, interposers, or cryogenic packaging.
- Familiarity with superconducting-qubit architectures (transmon, fluxonium, tunable couplers, parametric amplification) and DOE/yield-learning methods.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field. Preferred: MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
