Quantum Process Integration Engineer
MicrosoftJob Title
Quantum Process Integration Engineer
Role Summary
Work on fabrication and measurement of topological qubits within an interdisciplinary quantum engineering team. The role combines hands-on clean-room fabrication, electrical and structural characterization collaboration, and data analysis to improve device yield, quality, and robustness.
Experience Level
Mid-level. No explicit years of experience stated; candidates are expected to have practical experience in semiconductor device fabrication and device characterization.
Responsibilities
Deliver experiments, analysis, and process improvements that increase qubit yield and quality.
- Analyze characterization data using classical and AI-enabled techniques to find trends, anomalies, and factors affecting device performance.
- Collaborate with electrical characterization teams to investigate device failures and identify underlying physical mechanisms.
- Work with structural characterization teams to perform physical failure analysis.
- Contribute to root-cause analysis of quality and yield excursions and recommend process improvements.
- Plan and execute experiments to improve process performance, yield, quality, and robustness.
- Develop and help qualify new processes for future generations of qubit devices.
- Perform both clean-room fabrication work and office-based data analysis; maintain clear documentation of experiments and results.
Requirements
Required technical capabilities and screening requirements are listed below.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience in semiconductor device fabrication and a solid foundation in semiconductor physics.
- Must-have: Experience with device characterization, failure analysis, and planning/executing experiments to improve yield and robustness.
- Must-have: Ability to analyze data (classical/statistical methods) and apply data-driven approaches to identify process drivers.
- Must-have: Ability to meet Microsoft and export-control related security and citizenship verification requirements (background checks and eligibility to access export‑controlled information).
- Nice-to-have: Experience applying AI for failure analysis or experiment design, and experience in statistical data analysis.
- Nice-to-have: Specific III/V-semiconductor fabrication experience and previous semiconductor industry experience.
- Nice-to-have: Qualifications or experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process-improvement methodologies.
Education Requirements
Required: Master's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field; OR a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field with relevant industry experience; OR equivalent practical experience.
