Job Title

Quantum Operations Engineer, Control Systems

Role Summary

Commission, operate, and improve a production quantum computer located in Copenhagen as part of the systems operations team. The role bridges experimental atomic-physics systems and high-performance control software/firmware to deliver reliable, low-latency quantum operations.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Specific years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on building, stabilizing, and operating the control stack that runs quantum experiments.

  • Build, commission, troubleshoot, and improve scientific hardware and control interfaces (hardware and software).
  • Optimize and support deterministic, low-latency software for stable, production-grade quantum operations.
  • Manage and improve orchestration layers coordinating GPUs, FPGAs, and custom electronics for high-bandwidth, synchronized control.
  • Use knowledge of atomic physics and quantum control to identify failure modes and improve system reliability and uptime.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Handle physical tasks as needed (able to lift and move up to 25 pounds).

Requirements

Core technical skills and operational experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in software development using C++, Python, or Rust; experience with real-time systems and FPGA design (VHDL/Verilog) or NVIDIA CUDA.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to troubleshoot hardware/software co-designs and maintain production-ready code in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Must-have: Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with experimental physicists and engineering teams.
  • Must-have: Comfortable working in a fast-growing startup with ambiguity and rapid change.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience commissioning scientific experimental hardware or prior work with quantum control systems.

Education Requirements

PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
