Job Title

Quantum Ion Trap Integration Engineer

Role Summary

Senior technical contributor within the Quantum Product Development organization. Lead development and integration of semiconductor technologies to enable scalable ion-trap quantum computing systems, spanning device integration, BEOL interconnects, photonics, advanced packaging, cryogenic interfaces, and manufacturing.

The role drives integration architecture, experimental roadmaps, and execution of development programs that transition emerging quantum concepts into manufacturable semiconductor solutions.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires 15+ years of semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

Lead and execute technical integration workstreams across device, process, packaging, and system levels.

  • Define and lead semiconductor integration architectures for quantum platforms.
  • Develop integration strategies across front-end devices, BEOL routing, photonic interfaces, and packaging.
  • Create and maintain technology roadmaps for scalability, manufacturability, and qualification.
  • Define and execute integrated process flows, module interactions, process windows, and learning cycles.
  • Apply DOE, statistical analysis, and yield learning to optimize integration.
  • Establish integration checkpoints, performance metrics, and technical success criteria.
  • Translate quantum system requirements into semiconductor technology requirements and development plans.
  • Analyze electrical, physical, reliability, and metrology data; lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and influence technical direction, including contributions to disclosures and patents.

Requirements

Must-have technical qualifications and experience for immediate contribution.

  • 15+ years of semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor integration, process development, or technology commercialization.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical programs or major development initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills, experimental design experience, and problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering and leadership audiences.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with BEOL technologies, photonics integration, advanced packaging, or heterogeneous integration.
  • Knowledge of quantum hardware architectures, ion trapping technologies, photonic systems, or cryogenic electronics.
  • Experience with MES systems and foundry processing.
  • Experience transitioning emerging technologies from research into development or manufacturing and supporting externally funded R&D programs.

Education Requirements

Associate's, BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
