Quantum Ion Trap Integration Engineer
Role Summary
Senior technical contributor in the Quantum Product Development organization responsible for developing and integrating semiconductor technologies that enable scalable quantum computing systems. The role leads integration architecture decisions, establishes experimental roadmaps, and drives execution of programs to transition emerging quantum concepts into manufacturable technologies.
Experience Level
Senior level - requires extensive industry experience (15+ years) in semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Deliver integration solutions across device, interconnect, photonics, packaging, and cryogenic interfaces while coordinating cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Lead development of semiconductor integration architectures for quantum computing platforms.
- Define integration strategies spanning front-end devices, BEOL routing, photonic interfaces, advanced packaging, and quantum-specific process modules.
- Create and maintain technology roadmaps focused on scalability, manufacturability, and qualification.
- Plan and execute integrated process flows, DOE campaigns, statistical analysis, and yield-learning activities.
- Establish integration checkpoints, performance metrics, and technical success criteria.
- Evaluate tradeoffs among performance, manufacturability, reliability, yield, cost, and scalability.
- Collaborate with device engineering, process modules, manufacturing, reliability, modeling, design enablement, and packaging teams.
- Translate quantum system requirements into semiconductor technology requirements and development plans.
- Lead root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and develop predictive models to accelerate technology maturation.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across integration disciplines.
- Support external partnerships, program reviews, and technical presentations; contribute to invention disclosures and patents.
- Perform work in accordance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience, leadership, and communication skills required to drive complex integration programs.
- 15+ years of experience in semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing.
- Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor integration, process development, or technology commercialization.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional technical programs or major development initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills, experimental design experience (DOE), and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to engineering and leadership audiences.
- Experience with data analysis, metrology, and reliability investigations.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with BEOL technologies, photonics integration, advanced packaging, or heterogeneous integration.
- Knowledge of quantum hardware architectures, ion trapping technologies, photonic systems, or cryogenic electronics.
- Experience with externally funded R&D programs and transitioning research into development or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with MES systems and foundry processing.
Education Requirements
Associates Degree, BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (listed as acceptable degree levels by the employer).
