Role Summary
Lead research and engineering of quantum error correction (QEC) architectures for Equal1's silicon spin qubit platform. Translate theoretical QEC designs into hardware-aware, scalable implementations and integrate them with algorithms, control, and measurement systems.
The role combines technical leadership, simulation and prototyping, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enable fault-tolerant quantum computing on Equal1's roadmap.
Experience Level
Senior β at least 5 years of relevant experience in academia or industry research in quantum error correction.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and leadership responsibilities:
- Design, modify, and evaluate quantum error-correcting codes, logical qubit schemes, and decoding algorithms for large-scale silicon spin qubit arrays.
- Specify physical-qubit requirements and qubit-topology guidance needed to surpass breakeven for target codes.
- Implement and validate QEC protocols on the Equal1 silicon spin QSoC platform, including simulation with realistic noise models.
- Develop logical gate designs, including non-Clifford implementations, lattice surgery, and code-switching strategies.
- Collaborate with Algorithms, Theory, engineering, software, and measurement teams to integrate fault-tolerant systems into the overall architecture.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation: design specifications, test plans, and manuals.
- Publish and present results in internal seminars and international journals and conferences.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; nice-to-have items indicated where appropriate.
- Deep expertise in fault-tolerant quantum computing, including QEC, decoding, logical gate design, and lattice surgery.
- Proven track record implementing quantum error correction solutions and conducting simulation studies with realistic noise models.
- Experience leading technical efforts and working with cross-functional teams (engineering, algorithms, software, measurement).
- Strong programming competence (Python or similar) for simulation, decoding, and tooling.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical-writing skills; experience producing design specs and test plans.
- Demonstrated publication record, public code, or equivalent contributions in QEC or related areas.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience with silicon spin qubits or hardware-aware QEC optimization.
Education Requirements
PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Quantum Computing, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science) OR equivalent postdoctoral or industry experience in quantum error correction.
