Job Title

Quantum Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the R&D team to design and scale superconducting quantum processors and associated readout hardware. Work spans on‑chip subsystem architecture, EM simulation, frequency allocation, crosstalk mitigation, packaging, and interconnect strategies.

This is a hands‑on engineering role requiring close collaboration with experimentalists and device engineers to convert measurement feedback into rapid design iterations that improve coherence, fidelity, yield, and manufacturability.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role targets candidates with practical device design experience; typical profile in posting: MSc + 2+ years industry experience, or a PhD with relevant hands‑on work.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, simulation, and automation of quantum device and readout hardware.

  • Design and simulate superconducting quantum hardware to improve coherence, performance, and scalability.
  • Develop manufacturable device architectures to accelerate R&D cycles and increase qubit fidelity and yield.
  • Architect and optimize nonreciprocal superconducting circuits (e.g. parametric amplifiers) for cryogenic operation and robust readout.
  • Interpret simulation results and correlate with experimental data to guide iterative design improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure rapid design-to-test cycles.
  • Automate design pipelines using Python for parametric generation, simulation sweeps, and data processing.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; educational requirements are listed below under Education Requirements.

  • Strong Python skills for automation, simulation control, and data analysis.
  • Experience with EM simulation and chip layout tools (examples: Ansys HFSS, Q3D, KLayout) and version control (Git).
  • Practical knowledge of cQED devices and superconducting circuit design.
  • Experience designing nonreciprocal superconducting circuits or advanced readout techniques.
  • Solid understanding of microwave engineering, quantum noise sources, and fabrication methods.
  • Familiarity with Qiskit‑Metal or similar quantum device design frameworks is a plus.

Education Requirements

MSc in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of industry experience, or a PhD with relevant hands-on work. The posting indicates these as the target educational backgrounds; equivalent practical experience may also be considered.
