Job Title

Quantum Data Performance Engineer - Systems Integration

Role Summary

The Systems Integration team seeks a Data Performance Engineer to develop, validate, and optimize data pipelines and analytics to monitor performance, reliability, and reproducibility across a fleet of quantum subsystems. The role works cross-functionally with physics, readout, control, and software teams to surface system-level insights and inform technical strategy.

This position involves designing monitoring pipelines, performing statistical analysis, and communicating findings to prioritize improvements in a research-driven hardware program focused on topological quantum computing.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Specific years of experience are not specified; the role expects demonstrated experience in large-scale data analysis, pipeline development, and collaboration in research or industry environments.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and maintaining data infrastructure, analyzing subsystem performance, and supporting cross-functional troubleshooting.

  • Collaborate with technical pillars to capture operational requirements and characteristics of subsystems.
  • Design, implement, and refine automated data pipelines and historical monitoring for critical performance metrics.
  • Perform advanced statistical analysis and data mining to identify trends, anomalies, top risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Document and communicate analysis results and actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Partner with software teams to maintain code and infrastructure for analysis and reporting.
  • Define new metrics and risk indicators; implement dashboards and visibility tools for subsystem health.
  • Support root-cause analysis and troubleshooting by delivering deep dives into subsystem performance history.

Requirements

Core technical and operational requirements. Degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

Must-have:

  • Experience with large-scale data analysis, statistical modeling, and visualization (examples: Python, R, MATLAB, Power BI).
  • Experience building and maintaining automated data pipelines, databases, or cloud-based monitoring solutions.
  • Ability to perform statistical process control, experiment design, and data-driven root-cause analysis.
  • Experience partnering with software engineering teams to productionize analysis and reporting code.
  • Ability to meet required security and export-control screening requirements for access to controlled information.
  • Comfort using AI tools to accelerate analysis, modeling, and routine tasks.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with superconductor or semiconductor physics, RF measurement techniques, and/or cryogenic systems.
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to enhance monitoring, anomaly detection, or visualization workflows.
  • Proven ability to translate technical data into actionable recommendations for multidisciplinary teams.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field; OR a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field plus relevant industry or R&D experience; OR equivalent practical experience. Preferred: Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field, or advanced degree with demonstrated industry/R&D experience.
