Quantum Computing Measurement Engineer

Role Summary

Perform experimental measurement and characterization of silicon spin qubits at millikelvin temperatures to advance Intel's silicon quantum dot technology. Work closely with device fabrication, software, and systems teams to develop testing, verification, and data-driven device optimization.

This role combines hands-on cryogenic measurement, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to support scalable quantum processor development.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Candidates should have at least 1+ years of relevant hands-on experience in quantum device or semiconductor qubit measurements.

Responsibilities

Execute measurement campaigns and develop methods to characterize and improve qubit devices.

  • Design and run quantum device measurement experiments to characterize silicon spin qubits.
  • Perform electrical measurements using dilution refrigerators and other cryogenic systems at millikelvin temperatures.
  • Analyze device performance data and build models to guide device optimization.
  • Develop efficient device testing, verification, and calibration methodologies for quantum processors.
  • Study quantum phenomena such as coherence times, gate fidelity, readout performance, and noise characterization.
  • Collaborate with fabrication, software, and systems teams to integrate measurement results into development cycles.
  • Maintain research partnerships and communicate findings via reports, presentations, or publications.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience. Items labeled "Must-have" are required for initial consideration; "Nice-to-have" items are preferred.

  • Must-have: 1+ years of hands-on experience in electrical measurement of semiconductor qubits or quantum devices.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with dilution refrigerators or other cryogenic measurement systems and cryogenic measurement techniques.
  • Must-have: Experience measuring and tuning quantum dots (few-electron regime), qubit readout and characterization (e.g., coherence times, T1/T2, Rabi, Ramsey), and noise spectroscopy.
  • Must-have: Strong experimental skills, data analysis ability, and clear communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with spin qubits in silicon, Si/SiGe or Ge/SiGe heterostructures and measurements from millikelvin to 4 K.
  • Nice-to-have: Programming or driver development experience (preferably Python) for automation and data analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: First-author publications in peer-reviewed journals and familiarity with quantum error characterization or correction protocols.

Education Requirements

Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, Quantum Information, Quantum Technologies, or Quantum Engineering.
