Job Title

PVD Equipment Manager

Role Summary

Manage a multidisciplinary PVD equipment engineering team (electronic, electrical, mechanical and hardware engineers) within the SPTS division at KLA Newport. Report to the Director PVD Engineering and lead people management, budgeting, project delivery and new product development.

The role requires cross-functional collaboration with Process, Automation, Software, Product Management, Operations and regional Field Service to deliver safe, compliant product designs and resolve escalations.

Experience Level

Senior — managerial role. The posting expects extensive experience in the semiconductor or high‑tech industry; no specific years-of-experience stated.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include engineering leadership, project delivery and cross-functional representation.

  • Set group priorities and allocate work for engineers.
  • Manage budgets and track expenditure.
  • Define and execute development projects tied to the product roadmap, including Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP).
  • Manage new product development (NPD) activities.
  • Coordinate and execute PLC programs with other teams.
  • Provide engineering input to close L4 escalations and ensure safe product design.
  • Ensure formal regulatory compliance of products.
  • Represent the Equipment group across Engineering, Product Management, Factory and Field Operations.
  • Prepare, delegate or contribute to technical reports, patent applications and conference papers.
  • Use and support engineering change control IT systems (ERP/MRP).

Requirements

Required and preferred skills for successful performance in this role.

  • Must-have: Extensive experience in the semiconductor or high‑tech industry.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated leadership or management experience overseeing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Must-have: Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Must-have: Proven project management capability and ability to work autonomously and within broader management teams.
  • Must-have: Excellent IT skills (Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with PVD sputtering technology development.
  • Nice-to-have: Project management qualification or certification.

Education Requirements

Degree (or higher) in a relevant discipline such as Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical), Physics or Chemistry, or equivalent level of practical experience. Project management certification is desirable.
