Job Title
Product Yield Enhancement (PYE) Engineer
Role Summary
Work on failure analysis and fault isolation to help transition next-generation devices from design to mass production. Collaborate with product, process, assembly and quality teams to identify physical defects introduced during fabrication or assembly, using electrical and physical characterization and data analysis.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include isolating failures, characterizing fail signatures, operating lab tools, and communicating findings to cross-functional teams.
- Perform electrical failure analysis and fault isolation across probe, backend test, internal qualification, and RMA failures.
- Operate bench test platforms and specialized tools for photon/thermal/laser stimulated emission (examples: Hamamatsu iPHEMOS, Thermo Fisher ELITE, uMate).
- Characterize and model backend test, qualification, and RMA fail signatures.
- Use layout and schematic review to support fault isolation and fail-signature modeling.
- Apply physical failure analysis (PFA) and de-processing techniques to identify process- or assembly-related defects.
- Extract and analyze fab, probe, and backend data to correlate failures.
- Generate organized, timely failure analysis reports and present causes, effects, and recommended mitigations to stakeholders.
- Support understanding of CMOS fabrication and package assembly flows and related reliability concerns.
Requirements
Must-have technical abilities and teamwork/communication skills.
- Experience with electrical failure analysis, fault isolation, and fail-signature characterization.
- Hands-on experience or aptitude for operating lab instrumentation and test platforms.
- Computer-aided layout and schematic experience.
- Proficiency with UNIX and programming for data analysis and automation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with disciplined investigative procedures.
- Effective written and verbal communication; ability to produce clear failure analysis reports.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams; self-motivated and proactive.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Electro-Optical Engineering, Photonics, Microelectronics, or Semiconductor Technology.
