Job Title
Product Yield Enhancement Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Product Yield Enhancement team as a Physical Failure Analysis (PFA) engineer focused on identifying physical root causes of semiconductor device failures and driving yield and reliability improvements for DRAM and HBM products.
The role performs hands-on failure analysis, microscopy, and data-driven investigations while collaborating with Product, Design, Process, Test, and Quality teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. No specific years of experience stated; role is suitable for candidates with a relevant advanced degree seeking hands-on PFA work and early-career development in semiconductor failure analysis.
Responsibilities
Primary duties and expectations for the role.
- Perform physical failure analysis (PFA) to validate electrical findings and identify root causes of low yield.
- Execute device decapsulation, non-destructive inspection (X-ray, C-SAM), layer-by-layer deprocessing using wet/dry etching and mechanical polishing.
- Operate and develop proficiency on microscopy tools (SEM, FIB) and support use of TEM, EDX, PVC for defect localization and characterization.
- Analyze defect and yield data with statistical methods and AI-assisted tools to support yield-improvement projects.
- Document findings with annotated images and clear root-cause summaries; communicate results to cross-functional teams.
- Follow lab procedures and chemical safety protocols; obtain required certifications for chemical handling and lab safety.
- Support rotating day/night shift schedules on a multi-month rotation and demonstrate adaptability in a manufacturing environment.
Requirements
Must-have skills and immediate expectations; qualifications related to degrees are listed under Education Requirements below.
- Hands-on aptitude for laboratory work and willingness to train and develop advanced PFA techniques.
- Familiarity or willingness to learn SEM and FIB operation; ability to develop to expert-level operation through internal training.
- Experience or aptitude for decapsulation, non-destructive inspection, and layer-by-layer deprocessing methods.
- Ability to analyze data using statistical tools and leverage AI-assisted analysis workflows.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with product, process, test, and quality teams.
- Adherence to chemical and lab safety procedures; ability to obtain required safety certifications.
- Basic English communication skills (written and verbal) for documentation and team interaction.
- Nice-to-have: prior manufacturing, front-end fab, back-end assembly, or test experience; experience with TEM, EDX, PVC; prior use of AI/data-analysis tools.
Education Requirements
Master's degree (MSE) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. The posting notes that manufacturing/front-end/back-end assembly or test experience is a plus but not required.
