Role Summary
Field Application Engineer on the European Automotive Customer Application team providing technical support for NXP automotive microcontroller solutions. Serves as the primary technical interface to customer engineering teams, supporting projects from design‑in through production and collaborating with sales and product groups to secure design wins.
Experience Level
Mid-level (typically 3–7 years). This role specifies 5+ years in a customer-facing applications role or hardware/software system development in automotive applications.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as direct technical interface with customer engineering and technical teams to support sales efforts and system-level discussions.
- Support customer projects from design‑in to production: training, board design review, product configuration and technical support.
- Diagnose and resolve customer issues in collaboration with internal technical support and engineering teams.
- Gather customer product and silicon requirements, communicate intelligence to product groups, and contribute to new product definition.
- Analyze competitive landscape and help develop differentiating technical collateral.
- Create technical collateral such as application notes and engineering bulletins.
- Represent NXP at technical conferences and industry shows as required.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- 5+ years experience in a technical customer-facing applications role (AE/FAE) or hardware/software system development in automotive applications.
- Solid knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and embedded software.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex board-level issues; familiarity with JTAG debuggers and common lab equipment.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to explain complex technical subjects to professional audiences.
- Fluent English and German; excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Professional, detail-oriented, customer-focused, self-driven, and able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience producing customer-facing technical collateral (application notes, engineering bulletins).
- Prior participation in technical conferences or industry shows.
