Product Security Intern — Cybersecurity
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Product Security Intern — Cybersecurity
Role Summary
Join a security-focused engineering team to design and implement a fuzzing framework targeting storage protocols (e.g., NVMe, UFS). The role delivers automated test execution, crash triage, and actionable findings to improve protocol implementation robustness.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Suitable for current graduate students (Master's) with practical development experience; no specific professional years-of-experience required.
Responsibilities
Deliver a fuzzing toolchain from design through validation and reporting.
- Analyze protocol specifications and identify high-value fuzzing surfaces (commands, state machines, error paths).
- Design fuzzing architecture: generation/mutation strategies, seed corpus, and state tracking.
- Implement tooling (Python, C, or C++) and integrate with open-source fuzzers or test harnesses as appropriate.
- Build protocol parsers/encoders and a test harness to interact with devices, emulators, simulators, or firmware.
- Automate execution, logging, and crash/failure triage (reproducers, minimization, reporting).
- Analyze results, document findings, and recommend improvements to increase coverage and defect discovery.
- Present design, demos, progress updates, and final outcomes to the team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and abilities for successful contribution.
- Strong programming ability in at least one of: Python, C, or C++.
- Solid understanding of OS fundamentals (processes, memory, I/O, concurrency) and debugging techniques.
- Familiarity with networking/protocol concepts and binary data formats (serialization, parsing, endianness).
- Ability to read technical specifications and implement testable designs.
- Effective written and spoken English for documentation and presentations.
- Willingness to work on-site and interact with hardware, firmware, and test equipment.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Computer Science Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field is required. The posting references higher-education level when determining internship allowance; equivalent practical experience is not stated as an alternative.
