Product Quality Engineer

Role Summary

Own the Failure Analysis (FA) lab at Morse Micro's Irvine site, manage customer-returned units from receipt through root-cause analysis, and verify corrective actions. Act as the primary liaison between customers, FAEs, and remote engineering teams to drive investigations to closure.

Responsibilities

Perform lab FA execution, customer communication, cross-site coordination, and documentation to resolve product failures.

  • Receive, log, and maintain chain-of-custody for customer-returned units; manage sample tracking through investigation completion.
  • Operate the Irvine production lab (LitePoint IQxel or equivalent) to run full Tx/Rx RF test suites measuring Tx power, EVM, SEM, PER, and frequency error across MCS/BW/frequency combinations; flash firmware branches for before/after verification.
  • Perform systematic multi-unit failure triage using module test jigs: power-on behavior, chip serial logging, failure mode classification, and Jira ticket creation.
  • Conduct component-level fault isolation to determine whether failures originate at the chip or PCB level.
  • Prepare and issue customer-facing FA Reports that state root cause, corrective action, and verification evidence.
  • Serve as primary customer contact for FA cases: acknowledge receipt, set timelines, and provide data-backed status updates.
  • Maintain detailed Jira tickets and Confluence documentation with test configurations, firmware versions, per-unit results, and failure evidence for remote teams.
  • Facilitate cross-site FA review calls: present findings, capture action items, and track commitments to closure.
  • Support OSAT and vendor quality oversight, review JEDEC-based qualification and reliability reports, and flag missing or borderline data.

Requirements

  • Must-have:
    • Hands-on RF production test experience operating LitePoint IQxel or equivalent; running Tx/Rx suites, flashing firmware, and configuring BCF/test region settings for corrective-action verification.
    • Demonstrated module-level failure triage experience: power-on jig assessment, chip serial logging, multi-category failure classification, and Jira-based tracking.
    • Proven ownership of customer FA investigations end-to-end, including FA Report delivery and verification of corrective actions.
    • Strong technical writing skills for clear customer-facing reports and internal investigation documents.
    • Effective cross-time-zone communication and experience with distributed engineering teams using async workflows, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Preferred:
    • Familiarity with Wi‑Fi HaLow (IEEE 802.11ah), Wi‑Fi, or similar RF/wireless semiconductor products.
    • Experience with MFT or similar production test software for module-level test execution and data collection.
    • Familiarity with JEDEC reliability qualification standards (HTOL, HTSL, TC, uHAST, MSL, ESD-CDM) from a review perspective.
    • Experience performing OSAT or test supplier quality audits and working in a fabless semiconductor environment.
