Job Title
Product Failure Analysis Engineer
Role Summary
Lead electrical failure analysis and root-cause debug for FPGA products using advanced foundry process technologies. Work with IC/package design, foundry engineering, product, manufacturing, and reliability teams to isolate faults, drive yield improvements, and resolve customer returns.
Primary focus is non-destructive electrical fault isolation using emission microscopy, laser voltage probing, OBIRCH and commercial test equipment.
Experience Level
Level - Senior. Expectation: 8+ years of semiconductor failure analysis and related hands-on tool experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include electrical verification, fault isolation, and collaboration across engineering teams to identify and remediate failures.
- Collaborate with product, yield, reliability, and manufacturing engineers to drive electrical verification and fault isolation during development and production.
- Support debug and fault isolation on customer returns and field issues.
- Define, execute, and interpret non-destructive fault isolation methods using commercial testers and FA tools.
- Perform emission microscopy (EMMI), laser voltage probing (LVP), and OBIRCH measurements independently.
- Analyze layouts, schematics and design artifacts to localize logic faults and failure modes.
- Coordinate with physical failure analysis teams for defect correlation and verification.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills; preferred items listed separately.
-
Must-have: 8+ years of semiconductor failure analysis experience.
-
Must-have: 8+ years using FA tools such as Laser Voltage Probing (LVP), Photo Emission (EMMI), and OBIRCH.
-
Must-have: 8+ years with layout and design tools (e.g., Virtuoso, Avalon, SysNav) and schematic/design analysis.
-
Must-have: 8+ years of DFT and logic fault localization experience; experience driving investigations to root cause and yield/reliability improvements.
-
Preferred: 10+ years of failure analysis experience.
-
Preferred: Understanding of FPGA architecture and design debug features (DFT).
-
Preferred: Experience with Teradyne Ultraflex tester and semiconductor packaging failure analysis.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (as stated in the minimum qualifications).
