Product Design Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Intern supporting the Product Development Team on Memory (NAND) and SSD (SATA, SAS, PCIe, NVMe) test development for NPI (new product introduction). The role assists engineers in designing test plans, developing test fixtures and scripts, and troubleshooting hardware and software compatibility for product validation.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship intended for current university students; no specific prior years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Work with engineers to develop and validate test solutions during NPI phases.

• Participate in designing comprehensive functional product test plans for Memory and SSD products (SATA, SAS, PCIe).
• Help define system specifications, I/O parameters, and platform compatibility requirements for hardware and software.
• Design and implement test methods, fixtures, and diagnostic programs for new products.
• Assist in planning testing labor, schedules, and equipment needs.
• Troubleshoot test systems and resolve design or process weaknesses.
• Develop or modify tools and automation scripts using languages such as Python and C++.

Requirements

Minimum technical skills and personal attributes expected for the role.

• Familiarity with Python, C/C++, or MATLAB for automation and data analysis.
• Understanding of digital systems, storage interfaces (SATA, NVMe, PCIe), and embedded systems.
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, protocol analyzer).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work independently and collaborate within a fast-paced engineering team.
• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of NAND flash memory and SSD architecture.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
