Principal Wet Process Engineer, Advanced Packaging

Role Summary

The Principal Wet Process Engineer will develop and optimize wet chemistry processes for advanced packaging products, drive yield and reliability improvements, and support new-product introductions. The role partners with R&D, materials suppliers, and manufacturing to qualify and transfer processes into production.

Experience Level

Senior β€” hiring level requires 8+ years of semiconductor process development experience; final hiring level (Principal or MTS) depends on candidate experience and technical depth.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include process development, problem resolution, and technical leadership across advanced packaging assembly steps.

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve assembly process-related problems using failure analysis and structured problem-solving.
  • Coordinate and implement process, equipment, and material evaluation and optimization; implement changes at process steps.
  • Validate and scale innovative processes, tools, and materials for new-product introduction.
  • Develop, optimize, and characterize wet chemistry processes to meet product requirements.
  • Lead yield improvement, cost-reduction, productivity improvement, and risk-management activities.
  • Plan and execute process baselines and new process qualifications.
  • Support SPC/FDC/RMS/APC and site-to-site portability activities.
  • Manage and audit material suppliers to meet quality, cost, and risk objectives.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Conceive and plan projects involving selection of new concepts, equipment automation, and development approaches.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical qualifications (degrees summarized in Education Requirements).

Must-have:

  • 8+ years semiconductor industry experience as a process development engineer.
  • Demonstrated use of failure analysis, FMEA, 8D, and statistical problem-solving (SPC/FDC) to resolve process issues.
  • Experience with process transfer, new-product introduction, and process qualification.
  • Experience managing supplier quality and participating in supplier audits.
  • Proven ability to lead yield and cost-reduction initiatives.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on wet chemistry development experience in a cleanroom environment.
  • Experience with Advanced Packaging, DRAM, NAND, or other memory products.
  • Experience using Python and statistical tools for data collection, organization, and analysis.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation for data analysis and process improvement.
  • Familiarity with material properties, characterization techniques, DOE, and model-based problem solving.

Education Requirements

Minimum: MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field. Preferred: PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry.
