Principal Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Lead the end-to-end validation strategy for automotive and embedded SoCs, from pre-silicon enablement through post-silicon production release. You will manage global validation teams, define system use-case validation suites, and drive validation programs that ensure robust silicon quality and zero customer escapes.

This role reports into the manufacturing/engineering organization and partners closely with Design, DV, Test, Firmware, Software, Product Engineering, and Quality to influence architecture and program decisions based on validation data.

Experience Level

Senior level. Requires extensive industry experience (guidance: 15+ years in semiconductor validation, characterization, or silicon engineering; 3+ years in senior technical leadership roles).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining strategy, scaling teams, and ensuring silicon quality across multiple programs.

• Define and own end-to-end silicon validation strategy for assigned SoCs (pre‑silicon to production release).
• Ensure first‑time‑right silicon and prevent customer escapes through robust validation coverage and signoff criteria.
• Lead global validation teams for bring‑up, characterization, and system‑level validation across concurrent programs.
• Establish System Use Case Validation Program and convert real customer/OEM scenarios into automated, traceable suites.
• Drive shift‑left validation and continuity across simulation, emulation/FPGA, and silicon to reduce late surprises.
• Own escape‑prevention strategy: robustness testing, fault scenarios, coverage models, and disciplined signoff.
• Build and scale validation organizations and technical leadership pipeline (Staff/Principal roles).
• Lead automation, standardization, and modernization of labs, board farms, and CI/infrastructure.
• Define validation methodologies, quality benchmarks, metrics, and executive reporting dashboards.
• Identify risks early and drive data‑driven mitigation and executive decision‑making.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed after must-haves.

• 15+ years in semiconductor validation, characterization, or silicon engineering with ownership of silicon quality outcomes.
• 3+ years in senior technical leadership roles managing global, matrixed teams.
• Strong domain expertise in SoC validation, system‑level use‑case testing, and robustness validation.
• Proven track record delivering complex SoC programs from first silicon through production release.
• Deep understanding of silicon validation flows, lab environments, and post‑silicon debug ecosystems.
• Experience building automation‑first validation frameworks using Python, C++, or similar technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to drive cross‑functional execution in a global, matrixed organization.
• Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and decision‑making skills.
• Experience applying AI frameworks to improve SoC validation efficiency and quality.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with ISO 26262 / ASIL‑B development and validation environments.
• Exposure to emulation/FPGA‑based shift‑left validation and pre↔post‑silicon continuity models.
• Mixed‑signal and digital validation experience, including pattern‑based and system‑level methodologies.
• Automotive OEM or Tier‑1 customer engagement experience and institutionalizing best practices.

Education Requirements

B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
