Principal Test Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for developing and implementing factory test strategies, tools, and processes for EML and CW laser product lines to meet production speed, scale, cost, and quality targets. The role supports yield improvement through data analysis, test automation, and cross-functional failure analysis.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 5+ years of experience in test engineering, tester or equipment development.

Responsibilities

Deliver and support test systems and processes that enable high-volume, high-quality production and improved yield.

• Develop, implement, and release factory test strategies, processes, and tools for EML and CW laser production.
• Perform statistical data analysis and troubleshoot root causes to drive yield enhancement.
• Identify and lead initiatives for test automation, process improvements, test-time and cost reductions.
• Lead troubleshooting and failure analysis activities with suppliers and operations to meet tester uptime and utilization targets.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in test engineering, tester development, or equipment development.
• Proficient in statistical data analysis and tools (SQL, JMP).
• Understanding of Gage R&R, correlation, test coverage, and qualification methods.
• Ability to interpret and correlate test results with fab inline process data to improve yield.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and data-driven analytical mindset.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with semiconductor lasers (edge-emitting lasers or VCSELs), device characterization, or process development.
• Familiarity with photonics packaging, laser diodes, LEDs, photodetectors, driver ICs, and optical components.
• Strong communication skills and ability to drive cross-functional actions.
• Fluency in Japanese.

Education Requirements

BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Information (or related field), or other relevant major.
