Principal Test Engineer
Role Summary
The Principal Test Engineer drives evaluation, development, and deployment of semiconductor test technologies across global manufacturing sites. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert, leads strategic R&D initiatives, and introduces test solutions to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 10 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, with substantial experience in test engineering or closely related disciplines.
Responsibilities
Lead technical test projects and support deployment of new test technologies and equipment across manufacturing sites.
- Lead Test Technology R&D: technology scouting, benchmarking, feasibility studies, evaluation, and implementation.
- Research and assess emerging test technologies, equipment, automation solutions, and industry best practices.
- Evaluate, qualify, and introduce new test equipment, systems, and methodologies into production.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to manufacturing sites, suppliers, and global engineering teams.
- Manage cross-functional projects with Product Engineering, Package R&D, Manufacturing, and Technology & Operations.
- Collaborate with suppliers and technology partners to develop and deploy test solutions.
- Organize global technical forums and deliver technical training to strengthen engineering capabilities.
- Monitor project progress, report to stakeholders, and ensure execution of strategic initiatives.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and supplier forums to identify technologies and partnerships.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, domain experience, and leadership capabilities required to perform the role.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in semiconductor test engineering or related areas (Test Equipment Engineering, Wafer Probe, Test Process Engineering, Test AOI, Product Engineering).
- Strong knowledge of semiconductor test methodologies, production test processes, and manufacturing test environments.
- Hands-on experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and semiconductor test handlers.
- Proven experience leading technical and cross-functional projects from concept through implementation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management in a global environment.
- Experience introducing new semiconductor test technologies or platforms into production.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and data tools such as GR&R, Spotfire, JMP, or Minitab.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Industry 4.0, manufacturing digitalization, test automation, and equipment lifecycle management.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline was specified.
