Job Title

Principal Test Development Engineer

Role Summary

Senior technical leader role in the Precision Signal Chain Back-End Measurement team in Limerick, responsible for defining and driving test and measurement strategies for precision mixed-signal products from concept through high-volume production. The role combines hands-on test development, cross-functional influence, and program leadership to ensure product quality, manufacturability and production readiness.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 12+ years of semiconductor industry experience in test development or equivalent technical experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include leading test strategy, developing production test solutions, and enabling transfers into high-volume manufacturing.

  • Define and execute test strategies for precision analog and mixed-signal products from concept to production release.
  • Develop probe and final test solutions on advanced mixed-signal ATE platforms.
  • Establish robust test methodologies, production test limits, release criteria and characterisation strategies using statistical analysis.
  • Influence design-for-test, testability and production test strategies through collaboration with Design and Evaluation teams.
  • Lead technical reviews, identify development risks and drive mitigation across multiple projects.
  • Manage successful transfer of production test solutions into high-volume manufacturing and support yield and quality improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and promote reusable frameworks and best practices across the organisation.
  • Coordinate with Product Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing to resolve complex technical challenges.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills for immediate contribution; preferred items listed separately.

  • Typically 12+ years of semiconductor industry experience with significant experience in test development.
  • Strong ATE development experience (Teradyne, Advantest, NI STS or equivalent mixed-signal platforms).
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and influence cross-functional engineering decisions.
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor product development: characterisation, qualification, production test strategy, manufacturing release and yield improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of precision analog and mixed-signal circuits, measurement techniques and bench instrumentation.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and technical leadership skills; data-driven problem solving.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required (typically up to 10%).

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience developing production test solutions for ADCs, DACs, amplifiers, references or power management devices.
  • DFT methodologies, simulation-based test development, virtual ATE or pre-silicon test verification experience.
  • Mixed-signal hardware development experience (load boards, evaluation systems, PCB design, CAD/simulation tools).
  • Software development for test environments using C/C++, Visual Basic or LabVIEW.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and development of engineering methodologies and best practices.

Education Requirements

BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related technical discipline.
