Job Title
Principal TEM Automation Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Yield Enhancement lab at Micron's Singapore Technology Development site to develop and deploy automated workflows for Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) sample preparation and analysis that support next-generation NAND development.
The role focuses on building automation, scripts, and AI-driven solutions to accelerate sample-to-data throughput, improve data quality, and transfer solutions across TD and global manufacturing sites.
Experience Level
Senior β Principal-level engineering role. Years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include daily tool operation, automation development, and cross-team knowledge transfer.
- Operate and maintain FIB and TEM systems; manage samples from receipt to data delivery.
- Develop templates, recipes, and scripts to automate TEM sample preparation and TEM analysis for NAND nodes.
- Design, validate, and implement in-house scripts for automated TEM data collection, processing, and reporting.
- Apply data science and image analysis to optimize tool recipes and provide feedback to process teams.
- Drive an automation roadmap through collaboration with instrument vendors and internal teams.
- Transfer developed solutions to other TD teams and global manufacturing sites.
- Use approved AI-enabled tools while following responsible AI, data-security, and quality-control practices.
- Mentor and train team members on TEM and sample-preparation automation techniques.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and personal attributes.
- Extensive experience in FIB and TEM automation using machine learning and pattern recognition.
- Scripting proficiency in Python and DigitalMicrograph.
- Experience with TEM materials characterization workflows, including EDS and EELS (operational experience emphasized separate from degree requirement).
- Practical experience applying data science to tool parameters, images, or TEM data to improve recipes and throughput.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, kinetics, crystallography, ion/electron diffraction, and chemical analysis.
- Proactive problem-solver who can work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Familiarity with lab safety and the ability to maintain lab procedures within safety requirements.
Education Requirements
