Principal Technical Program Manager - Silicon Systems & Software
Role Summary
Lead end-to-end development and production of advanced satellite communications and silicon-related systems. Manage complex, cross-disciplinary programs spanning systems engineering, RF, digital hardware, ASIC/FPGA, embedded software, mechanical, manufacturing, test, supply chain, and quality.
Drive technical planning, schedule and risk management, vendor coordination, integration, validation, NPI, and production ramp. Role is based in the Bay Area; relocation is provided and travel is expected up to 20%.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 12+ years of experience managing complex, multidisciplinary engineering programs.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include program leadership, cross-functional coordination, and successful delivery from concept through production.
- Lead end-to-end execution of complex communications systems development programs from concept through production ramp.
- Coordinate activities across Systems Engineering, RF, digital hardware, ASIC/FPGA, embedded software, mechanical, manufacturing, test, supply chain, and quality.
- Develop and maintain integrated program schedules, milestones, dependencies, and critical paths.
- Identify technical, schedule, manufacturing, supplier, and integration risks and drive mitigation plans.
- Coordinate prototype builds, hardware bring-up, system integration, validation, and verification activities.
- Manage external vendors and engineering partners to ensure technical alignment, quality, and on-time delivery.
- Lead engineering and technical program reviews, executive status meetings, and drive action-item closure.
- Support design reviews, engineering change management (including ECOs), manufacturing readiness, and NPI activities.
- Develop executive dashboards, KPIs, and program metrics to communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and key decisions.
Requirements
Must-have experience and qualifications for successful performance in this role.
- 12+ years leading complex technical programs with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Proven experience managing communications systems, networking, wireless, aerospace, satellite, or other complex hardware/software products.
- Experience across the full product lifecycle: system architecture, design, prototype development, integration, validation, manufacturing, and production.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional engineering organizations without direct authority and drive decisions.
- Strong understanding of hardware and embedded systems development processes and manufacturing interactions.
- Experience managing technical schedules, dependencies, risks, issues, and executive communications.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external development partners.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (required by export control regulations).
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Agile tools (Jira, Confluence), Microsoft Project, and prior experience with NPI and production ramp.
- Nice-to-have: PMP or equivalent program management certification.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field. PMP or equivalent program management certification is listed as preferred.
