Job Title

Principal TD Device Engineer

Role Summary

Lead improvement of silicon photonic device performance and manufacturability through design, simulation, data analysis and test. The role owns a technology module and coordinates device/macro design, electro‑optical testing and manufacturing integration.

Work includes device test structure simulation and design, experiment design and data mining, collaboration with device and process teams, and software/tool enablement for device/macro simulation.

Experience Level

Senior (Principal-level). The posting specifies 2 years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate experience in the job or a related role.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include technical leadership of device development, analysis and production enablement.

  • Improve device performance and manufacturability; design experiments and macros to address yield and reliability.
  • Perform data mining and data analysis to detect line issues and drive containment and resolution.
  • Design and simulate device test structures; coordinate electro/optical testing and hardware disposition.
  • Own a technology module: prioritize projects, delegate to extended team, and define improvement experiments.
  • Enable and contribute to open-source and internal software/tools for device/macro design and simulation.
  • Sustain and improve manufacturing technology: product quality, defectivity reduction, process stability (Cp/Cpk) and processing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with device and process teams to drive development of new production technologies.
  • Drive cost reductions via defect/yield improvements and efficiency gains; travel up to 10% domestically.
  • Perform all work following Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and responsibilities for day-to-day success.

  • Hands-on experience in silicon photonics or device physics and related device engineering.
  • Coding proficiency (Python, R or similar) for data analysis and automation.
  • Simulation tool experience (e.g., Lumerical, Cadence).
  • PDK to tapeout flow experience for customer designs and macro design capability.
  • SKILL language experience for Cadence pcells and HFSS (high frequency structure simulator) experience.
  • Ability to design device test structures and coordinate electro/optical measurements.
  • Proven data mining/analysis skills to identify process issues and support corrective actions.
  • Leadership and project prioritization skills to own a technology module and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to ~10%.

Education Requirements

Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field of study. The posting also requires approximately 2 years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate experience in the role or a related area.
