Principal TCAD Engineer

Role Summary

Provide TCAD simulation and modeling support to the CMOS business line (including FDSOI, FinFET and Bulk) to accelerate technology development and device optimization. Work within the Design and Technology Enablement organization in Sofia and collaborate with integration, device and design engineering teams to deliver simulation-based recommendations and calibrated models.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical experience ranges provided by the employer: PhD + 1–2 years, MS + 2–4 years, or BS + 4–5 years of relevant industry or research experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on using commercial TCAD tools to model process flows and device behavior, communicate results, and support technology decisions.

• Provide TCAD support for CMOS architectures (FDSOI, FinFET, Bulk).
• Run and interpret simulations to link process flows to electrical device performance (IV, CV, BV, self-heating, ESD, RF, large-signal behavior).
• Calibrate TCAD models and maintain simulation accuracy autonomously.
• Collaborate closely with integration, device, and design engineers to develop timely solutions for internal and external customers.
• Evaluate multiple optimization paths and present technical trade-offs to drive technology decisions.
• Deliver results on schedule and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and behaviours; the employer lists additional domain experience as desirable.

• Must-have: Strong knowledge of VLSI fabrication processes.
• Must-have: Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics.
• Must-have: Practical experience with TCAD and device/process modeling tools.
• Must-have: Expertise in at least one domain related to CMOS fabrication or modeling.
• Ability to work effectively in a team, solve complex technical problems, and meet timelines.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with embedded non-volatile memory technologies (Flash, RRAM, MRAM).

Education Requirements

Specified combinations of degree and experience: PhD with ~1–2 years, MS with ~2–4 years, or BS with ~4–5 years of relevant experience. Relevant fields include VLSI/semiconductor fabrication, semiconductor device physics, CMOS process/device modeling, or equivalent industry/research experience.
