Job Title

Principal System Engineer

Role Summary

Lead product definition and system architecture for multiphase VCORE power solutions used in laptops and Edge AI platforms. Serve as the primary interface between compute-silicon vendors (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA), OEMs/ODMs, and internal R&D to deliver IMVP/SVI-compliant, high-efficiency, high-density VR solutions.

Own product-level decisions for multiphase buck/Smart Power Stage architectures, drive architecture reviews, and support platform bring-up and customer escalations.

Experience Level

Senior β€” minimum 12 years of semiconductor experience with a focus on multiphase DC-DC converters and processor core-rail regulation for laptop and/or Edge AI platforms.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include product definition, system modeling, cross-functional leadership, and customer engagement.

  • Define architecture and electrical specifications for VCORE, VCCSA/SoC and GT/NPU rails to meet IMVP/SVI compliance and OEM platform requirements.
  • Perform topology selection, phase-count optimization, and efficiency/transient analysis using system-level simulation tools (SIMPLIS, MATLAB, Cadence, or similar).
  • Develop behavioral models to evaluate AVP/load-line, DVID/dynamic-VID transients, phase-shedding, and loop stability against vendor specs.
  • Review PCB schematics and layouts to account for PDN parasitics and last-inch interconnect constraints affecting transient response.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews with Design, Marketing, Applications, and IC Design; define controller/power-stage partitioning and digital feature sets (SVID/PMBus).
  • Drive strategic roadmap decisions for high-current vertical power delivery and next-generation IMVP/SVI feature adoption.
  • Serve as the final technical escalation point for complex customer issues.

Requirements

Concise list of required skills and experience. "Must-have" items are listed first; "Nice-to-have" items follow.

  • Must-have:
  • Minimum 12 years of semiconductor experience focused on multiphase DC-DC converters and processor core-rail regulation.
  • Hands-on product-definition experience with Intel IMVP-compliant and/or AMD SVI2/SVI3 VR solutions preferred.
  • Proficiency with system design and simulation tools such as SIMPLIS/SIMetrix, MATLAB, or Cadence-based environments for multiphase VR modeling.
  • Deep knowledge of Power Delivery Networks (PDN), PCB parasitics (ESL/ESR), multiphase control (AVP/load-line, current balancing, phase shedding), and serial-VID interfaces (Intel SVID, AMD SVI2/SVI3, PMBus).
  • Proficiency in Python or C for behavioral modeling and automation.
  • Proven experience interfacing with OEMs and compute-silicon technical teams.
  • Nice-to-have:
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA OpenVReg (OVR) specifications and PWMVID-based multiphase core power for GPU/Edge AI platforms.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (power electronics emphasis preferred); PhD is a plus.
