Principal SW Safety Expert

Role Summary

The Principal SW Safety Expert ensures delivered automotive software meets ISO 26262 safety requirements and that appropriate controls and processes are in place across the Automotive SW R&D organization. You will work with SW architects, development teams and customers to define and verify safety concepts, assumptions and implementation feasibility.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities include defining safety architecture and enabling teams to deliver ISO 26262-compliant software.

• Define software safety requirements and safety assumptions within the Technical Safety Concept.
• Assess feasibility and align implementation with SW teams and architects.
• Perform or coordinate software-level safety analyses and document results.
• Manage customer communications related to safety architecture and concepts.
• Deploy ISO 26262-compliant technical processes and practices in projects.
• Identify, report and escalate technical safety deviations per procedure.
• Create technical training materials and coach SW teams on safety practices.

Requirements

Must-have skills and background for the role.

• Proven experience in the automotive domain (listed as ~5 years).
• Hands-on software architecture experience and background in SW development.
• Practical knowledge of ISO 26262 and related safety work practices; relevant safety certificates are expected.
• Familiarity with ASPICE and ability to interpret and apply quality standards.
• Ability to define software processes (roles, activities, deliverables) and to operationalize them in projects.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience working with cross-functional teams and customers.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. ISO 26262-related certifications are mentioned as expected.
