Principal Software Engineer

Role Summary

Lead technical development and delivery of system software for Arm Neoverse–based platforms, from pre-silicon bring-up and validation to production firmware on silicon. Provide technical and people leadership for a focus group delivering platform capabilities that affect robustness, performance, observability, and user experience.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 16+ years of industry experience building complex system software and proven people leadership.

Responsibilities

Accountable for technical direction, delivery quality, and team development while remaining technically engaged.

  • Set direction and priorities for the team; define goals and delegate to enable reliable delivery aligned to platform strategy.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers; provide clear technical guidance and oversight of delivery.
  • Participate in design discussions, review critical designs and code, and contribute hands‑on to unblock the team.
  • Coordinate with peer engineering teams, QA, and customer-facing stakeholders to ensure coherent platform delivery.
  • Represent the team in technical reviews and contribute to platform-level architecture and delivery decisions.

Requirements

Core technical and leadership qualifications (must-have) followed by desirable skills (nice-to-have).

  • Must-have: 16+ years building complex system software with proven people leadership and delivery track record.
  • Must-have: Firmware development experience across pre-silicon bring-up and production-quality firmware on silicon (preferably Arm-based).
  • Must-have: System software experience for infrastructure-scale platforms and features such as RAS, virtualization, power management, BMC, telemetry, debug, and diagnostics.
  • Must-have: Strong technical judgment, experience assessing trade-offs, managing technical risk, and sustaining long-term software quality; familiarity with testing strategies, CI, and release considerations.
  • Must-have: Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills across sites and disciplines.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in server or customer-facing production environments; understanding of system architecture (preferably Arm), OS fundamentals, bootloaders, and device drivers.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with open-source/upstream communities and working in globally distributed teams.
